Pleasant Hope Middle School was recently awarded a $5000 grant to help purchase Smart TVs for its classrooms. This gracious gift allowed two classrooms to be equipped with new interactive panels on wheels. These Smart TVs help our teachers make lessons more interactive, engaging, and applicable for our tech savvy middle schoolers. We are thankful to the Community Foundations of the Ozarks Rural Schools Partnership and the Coover Charitable Foundation for helping us begin our Smart Classroom Project at PHMS. Our hope is to install Smart TVs in all classrooms in thenear future. Thank you CFO! more

The annual Halfway Antique-Farm Stock-Classic Tractor Pull will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Lions Club grounds in Halfway. Weigh in starts at 1 p.m. with the first class of tractors pulling at 6 p.m. All proceeds go towards community projects and facility maintenance. Trophies will be presented to the top four finishers in each class. Admission is $5 per person, 10 and under free. Bring your lawn chairs! Millie Eversoll, of Bolivar, celebrated her 90th birthday with friends and family on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the home of Lee and Dana Eversoll. Millie was born Aug. 14, 1934, the daughter of Jim and Sade Ross. She married Harold Eversoll on Sept. 16, 1952 and they had four children, Lee (Dana) Eversoll, Ron (Kay) Eversoll, David (Debbie) Eversoll and Becky (Rick) Turner. more

Polk County Health Center took part in the annual World Breastfeeding Week by celebrating area pregnant and breastfeeding mothers on Friday, Aug. 9. Local businesses donated items to be given away during the event. Approximately 30 mothers as well as their children enjoyed visiting various booths, playing games and getting cooled off in the splash pad at Cribbs Youth Park. more
