The Clara Building was built in 1884 to house the R.B. Viles Dry Goods store and was named in honor of his young daughter Clara. Over the years, until just recently, the store had been continually used as a clothing and dry goods store. Delarue’s Department Store (where my mother took me shopping before school started each year); Alyce’s Closet (which many of us remember fondly; and the Village Boutique has all occupied this building.

Liberator soccer prevailed in their match at home against Rolla on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The team showed fantastic perseverance throughout a physical game. Headed by seniors and captains Jonathon Peters and Ben Tull the defense withstood Rolla’s aggressive offense. Standing out with many crucial saves to secure the overtime victory was sophomore goalkeeper Wyatt Viles.

Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 6:30 p.m. will be a beginners quilting class at Bolivar Pentecostal Church of God. This is open to all ladies. There will be quilts and other projects on display. As well as each lady attending will be given a project she will make.

Citizens Memorial Hospice is hosting bereavement support group classes starting Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 5:30 p.m. at CMH Douglas Medical Center, Classroom C, 1155 W. Parkview St., in Bolivar. Participants will use the North entrance, “Information Services” door.

Ray Kirtley and Paula Griffin were married Aug. 27, 1983, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, at the Mountain Home Baptist Church. They have two daughters, three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter (with another on the way in December) and one great-grandson.

The family of Frank and Sarah Lowe Ashlock will meet for the annual Ashlock family reunion, Saturday, Sept. 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch will be at 1 p.m. at the first pavilion in Dunnegan Park, Bolivar. Bring a covered dish, table service drinks furnished. All family friends are invited.

The Rolla Bulldogs started the Labor Day weekend with a football game in Bolivar's home field Plaster Stadium. Rolla came off a loss to Camdenton the week before 41-21. They brought a young team and a new coach trying to find some traction for their first win.
