The Sew N’ Sew Quilt Guild will meet on Friday, Feb. 16, at the United Methodist Church at 105 E. Division Street. Please come to the east entrance to the Fellowship Hall. Social time is at 9:30 a.m., the program starts at 10 a.m. with a meeting to follow at 11 a.m. The program this month will be a discussion on ways to organize your stash. The discussion leaders will be Elizabeth Morgan and Tammy Condren. All those interested in quilting are welcome. more

We were successful in seeing some of our gubernatorial appointees move on to confirmation this week. Michelle Mincks of Bolivar serves on the Missouri Board of Nursing Home Administrators, Sarah Newell of Bolivar is on the Missouri 911 Service Board and Craig Jones of Brighton serves on our state’s Elevator Safety Board. I am thankful for the work of these constituents who take time to give back to their state and look forward to their continued service. more

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. This meeting is the annual tea and ladies may choose to bring their favorite teacup. more

The absentee ballots for the April General Municipal Election will be ready for voting on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024. The Polk County Clerk’s office will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday and open through the lunch hour for absentee voting. Those casting a ballot by mail must make sure their written and signed request states the reason for voting absentee and an address to which the ballot should be mailed. Those requesting ballots by mail must make sure their written request for a ballot arrives at the County Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2024. The deadline for casting an absentee ballot in person at the County Clerk’s office is 5 p.m. the day before the election, Monday, April 1, 2024. The County Clerk’s office will also be open for absentee voting on Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 8 a.m. to noon. more
It is one of the oldest buildings on the square, built by RB Viles, and after having siding over the original brick work for years the building is being refreshed and refurbished. Crews have had some great weather to work on getting the siding off and begin the ‘rejuvenating’ process on the building. more
