I did a little research about the foundation when it was brought to my attention that they wanted to discuss their institution with the paper, but sitting down and talking about the goals and successes of the organization left me feeling like there are still genuinely good and altruistic people in this world. more

The creative, commercial, and overall cultural impact of 1973’s “The Exorcist” cannot be overstated. Every Halloween, you’re bound to see and hear references to the film, from facsimiles of Linda Blair’s otherworldly-affected face to recreations of the iconic head-spinning scene to quotes of demonic threats that can’t be repeated here. The film spawned both sequels and prequels, none of which I’ve seen, but critical consensus indicates paled in comparison to the original. more

The Sew ‘N’ Sew Quilt Guild will meet Friday, Oct. 20, at 9:30 a.m. at the Butterfield Nursing Home to give a trunk show of two quilts from each member. In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Pleasant Hope R-VI will conduct a meeting to consult with parents about the process to identify children who are parentally placed that might have a disability will be held on Oct. 20, at 8 a.m. During this meeting participants will be asked to provide input about how funds should be allocated for individuals who live in our district and have a disability, but do not attend the school. The Bolivar School District has called for an election on Nov. 7, 2023, for the residents within their boundaries. Absentee voting started on Sept. 26. The Polk County Clerk’s office will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday and open through the lunch hour for absentee voting. The deadline for casting an absentee ballot in person at the County Clerk’s office is 5 p.m. the day before the election, Tuesday, Nov. 7. The County Clerk’s office will also be open on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to noon. more
