Saturday, Feb. 18, was a great morning for the 44th annual Polar Bear Run. The temperature was in the 20s to start the race, but the sunshine and excitement warmed up the runners pretty quickly. This year, the event had 99 runners participating. The annual Polar Bear Run benefits the Bolivar Liberator Cross Country program.

Thursday, Feb. 16, students and members of the school board, along with Bolivar school faculty, joined Dr. Asbill in the official groundbreaking for the new FEMA building to be located at Bolivar Middle School. An earlier article stated that the building was scheduled to be completed in October 2023.

The absentee ballots for the April General Municipal Election will be ready for voting on Tuesday, Feb. 21. The Polk County Clerk’s office will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and open through the lunch hour for absentee voting.

Restore 12:12 Ministries, a faith-based organization devoted to supporting young adults in Polk County, held a ribbon cutting event on Friday, Feb. 10 to celebrate the opening of the ministry’s R&R House, a temporary home for people ages 18-25 who are in need of a stable, affordable living arrangement as they overcome challenges in their lives.
