Spending time with an animal can be cathartic for humans and creatures alike. The Polk County Humane Society (PCHS) understands this and has found a way to spread the joy of dog ownership, even if it is just for short periods of time.

MERGE is back! MERGE is Polk County KLIFE and FBC's spring retreat for high school and middle school students on March 28-30th. It's a weekend to take a step away from their normal daily distractions and stress and have a fun-filled, intentional weekend pursuing Jesus. We want to create space for our students to ask questions, dive deeper, and know that they aren’t alone in their walk with the Lord. This year we are focusing on the parable of the Prodigal Son!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe at large got to take a break in 2024. Sure, “Deadpool & Wolverine” was one of the biggest hits of the year, but that was more about Disney showing off its newly-acquired 20th Century Fox toys than advancing the lore of its bread-and-butter franchise. But “Captain America: Brave New World” brings back the classics, invoking two characters that brought fans into the MCU in the first place: Captain America and The Incredible Hulk. Sure, it’s the Sam “Falcon” Wilson (Anthony Mackie) version of Captain America, and the Hulk connection doesn’t actually involve Bruce Banner, but a good movie can make audiences care about the evolution of these characters even without the more familiar faces. Unfortunately, this particular movie seems to be reminding people less of the glory days of the MCU and more of why it needed to take a break.

While most of Polk County didn't receive the amount of snow that was predicted, there was more than enough to bring life to a halt for a couple of days. Various amounts were reported anywhere from 2" to 6," but cold temperatures were as much a problem as the snowfall. Businesses closed, schools out, emergency crews working around the clock, the storm was the worst Polk County had seen in a few years.
