Winding down the fall semester, 180 Southwest Baptist University graduates are preparing for their time in the spotlight when they are recognized for completing their hard-earned degrees.
Two winter commencement ceremonies will take place on Friday, Dec. 16 in the Jane and Ken Meyer Wellness and Sports Center. The bachelor and graduate degree ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m., and an associate degree ceremony will follow at 6 p.m. Both ceremonies will be viewable on livestream.
According to a recent press release, the opening ceremony will feature a rendition of Diane WarrenMusic’s I Was Here by SBU music seniors Bridgette Hart and Hannah Laws.
The commencement address for both ceremonies will be presented by author and speaker Jennifer Rothschild. She is the founder of Fresh Grounded Faith, a national Christian women’s event.
“Rothschild has authored 19 books and bible studies, including her latest, Amos: An Invitation to the Good Life. She is known for her substance, signature wit, and down-to-earth style,” the release stated. “Rothschild has been blind since the age of 15 and says the greatest lesson she’s learned in the dark is that it can be well with your soul even if it isn’t well with your circumstances.”
Due to her notable Bible teachings and her efforts to make the Bible more accessible, Rothschild will be presented with an honorary doctorate from SBU during the first commencement ceremony.
The Jane and Ken Meyer Wellness and Sports Center is located at 1260 S Pike Ave. on the Bolivar campus. For more livestream links and details about graduation ceremonies, visit sbuniv.edu/academics/commencement/ or email the Office of the Provost at provostoffice@SBUniv.edu.
