Ed Kurtz is known throughout the Bolivar community as a successful architect, but if you ask students who have gone through Bolivar Primary School, they know him as Johnny Appleseed. For 30 years, Kurtz has donned a pot on his head and a cheerful smile to bring the story of Johnny Appleseed to life for first graders at Bolivar Primary School. Every September 26th — Johnny Appleseed’s birthday — students eagerly await Kurtz’s visit, where history, science, and inspiration come together for learning.
