Do you feel the spookiness in the air? Halloween has arrived, and area residents are making final preparations for the hauntingest holiday of the year.

The Kiwanis Club of Bolivar will host its annual costume contest at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, in the gazebo on the southwest corner of Bolivar's square.

Cash prizes will be given to the first, second and third place winners in each bracket. Age divisions will include 1 year and younger, ages 2 through 4, ages 5 through first grade, second and third grade, fourth through sixth grade, families and groups.

Monetary prizes for first, second and third will be awarded in each age group. Cash prizes will be $30 for first place, $20 for second, and $10 for third in each division. There will be a grand prize contest consisting of the first place winners in each category, with a $50 grand prize.

According to the City of Bolivar Office of Emergency Management, the city plans on shutting down some streets on the square for trick-or-treating on Sunday.

A social media post stated city staff will close the northbound and southbound lanes of Springfield Avenue and Main Street at around 4:30 p.m. The streets will remain closed until walking traffic subsides.

The post stated Mo. 32, or Broadway Street, will remain open.

“Please stay safe on any roads you are out on Sunday,” the post stated.
