The 2023-2024 Wrestling season ended at the MSHSAA State Championships on February 23- 24 in Columbia MO at the Mizzou Arena. Bolivar had four qualifiers, Sydney Waters (29-13), Maddux NeSmith (31-11), Cooper Moore (42-4) and Mason McCurry (41-4). They ended the state tournament with two state placers.   Cooper Moore (144-pound wt. class) won by fall over Robert Buehre (Festus), won by decision over Leo Buchheit (North Point), and won by fall over Austin Hunter (Ft. Zumwalt South) which took him to the Finals. He lost by major decision to an undefeated Cody Culp (Hannibal) and brought home the silver medal.  more

The absentee ballots for the April General Municipal Election will be ready for voting on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024. The Polk County Clerk’s office will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday and open through the lunch hour for absentee voting. Those casting a ballot by mail must make sure their written and signed request states the reason for voting absentee and an address to which the ballot should be mailed. Those requesting ballots by mail must make sure their written request for a ballot arrives at the County Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2024. The deadline for casting an absentee ballot in person at the County Clerk’s office is 5 p.m. the day before the election, Monday, April 1, 2024. The County Clerk’s office will also be open for absentee voting on Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 8 a.m. to noon. more

Bolivar took 8 wrestlers to Carl Junction for the Class 3 District 3 tournament. They competed with 14 other teams, a total of 167 wrestlers in 14 weight classes. In order to qualify for State they had to place in the top 4 of their bracket. more
Southwest Missouri’s oldest, annual running race, the Polar Bear Run, featured 112 runners and walkers at the event’s 45th anniversary on Saturday, Feb. 17 in Bolivar. Bolivar High School’s Cross Country Coach Ron Bandy is the race’s director. The event supports the school’s cross-country team through the Bolivar Running Club. more
The early morning temperatures at the 45th annual Polar Bear Run gave the runners a reason to run, hoping to warm up. But most of the runners ran with smiles on their faces and enjoyed taking part in the annual event. For details and more pictures see page 12.  more
The Bolivar Liberator Special Olympics basketball team hosted Republic on Thursday, Feb. 15. Along with their super fans made up with the Liberator Baseball team, the crowd cheered them on to a win.  more
The Kansas City Chiefs' win over the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl on Feb. 11 was a cause for celebration for thousands of fans throughout Missouri. Bolivar had its own share of loyalists who reveled in the heady high of victory. Two such die-hard fans were mother and son, Paula and John Hubbert who made the two-hour drive to Kansas City to see their team’s pep rally and parade. more
