Rape charge filed against Humansville man

Posted

A Humansville man, Jeffrey Spies, is faced with a warrant and a charge in Cedar County Circuit
Court for felony first-degree rape, according to a statement from the office of the Cedar County
Prosecutor.

The online court records state that, since the alleged crimes involve a minor, the court ruled to
protect the victim’s rights by ordering the probable cause statement to be kept confidential.
On Friday, Aug. 5, the court changed the extradition to a nationwide status on the existing
warrant.

“The charge of an offense is not evidence, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven
guilty,” as noted in the prosecutor’s statement.

The online court records state that the next court date, which will be a bond reduction hearing, is
scheduled at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17. Spies has been remanded to the custody of the
sheriff until the hearing, per the online records.

Further information about the case was unavailable by press time. More information will be
released as it becomes available.

The public is encouraged to contact the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office at 417-276-5133 if they
have any information to share about this case.
