Center Stage Dance Academy dancers were invited to perform at the Nascar 75th Anniversary Cup Series at the Kansas City Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 10. Terri Kirksey, owner of Center Stage, received a call from Nascar in April asking if they would like to perform at Nascar, and she was very excited to have this amazing opportunity for her dancers. Terri hand picked a group of students that were dedicated and up for the task of working hard for hours a day during summer break to put together a great show. The girls worked many hours every week during the summer to perfect a 15-minute non-stop routine that was race car themed for the Nascar opening ceremonies.

Community Outreach Ministries (COM) is hosting their second annual “Polk County’s Got Talent” fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Bolivar High School at 6:30 pm. A spinoff of the popular television talent show, America’s Got Talent, the fundraising event will highlight the talent of ten local individuals and groups. The event benefits Community Outreach Ministries which seeks to alleviate food insecurity in Polk County through their food pantry and community development programs.

Sling -n- Stones Ministries will host a National Recovery Month Awareness event at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the First Christian Church, 407 W Broadway St., Bolivar. Guest speaker, Dr. Tony Berry, will share his personal story about a family battle with addiction and recovery. A free dinner will be provided, and all are invited.
