The monthly meeting of the Polk County Genealogical Society will be held Thursday, March 7, at the PCGS Research Facility on the southeast corner of the square in Bolivar. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. with a short business meeting followed by the speaker, Jean Pufahl Vincent, sharing “Treasures and Tales of the Polk County Museum.” The museum, located at 201 W. Locust in Bolivar, is operated by the Historical Society of Polk County. It contains many treasures from Polk County’s history, most of which were graciously donated by Polk County families.

More than 500 people attended the Raeleigh Bess Benefit on Friday night, March 1. Over 150 items were auctioned off via a silent and live auction. There were close to 100 volunteers who helped make the event a success. The generosity and compassion of our community far exceeded any expectations! If you missed the event, donations can be made to the Raeleigh Bess Benefit Fund at OakStar Bank.

Larry and Freddie (Pursley) Moore of Polk will celebrate 60 years of marriage on March 12, 2024. The couple were united in marriage at Bolivar Assembly of God on March 12, 1964. Mr. Moore is a retired Halfway R-3 School bus driver and farmer. Mrs. Moore retired from Southwest Baptist University where she worked for many years in the foodservice department as a cook and baker.

Bill Roberts Chevrolet Buick will soon lose the latter part of their name. Buick, who has a line of four crossover-style vehicles, has chosen to make their entire line electric by the year 2030. The decision comes with a high price tag for dealers, meaning some will have to opt out of carrying the luxury GM line. One such dealer is Bolivar’s 3rd Generation GM Dealer, Bill Roberts.

The Women of Faith from the Aldrich United Methodist Church is having a baked potato dinner on March 17, serving will begin at 11:30 a.m. All are invited and welcome to come and enjoy this meal with us.
