The Polk County Democrats will be meeting at Flat Creek Restaurant in Bolivar for their Oct. 21 meeting. Dinner is optional at 5:30 p.m. with the meeting following at 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Matt Patterson, Missouri Democratic Party Executive Director. He was unable to attend our last meeting due to illness and is excited to join us for our October meeting. This Nov. 11, the Polk County Genealogical Society (PCGS) will be honoring Veterans with a display of carnations on the front steps of their building. Individuals will have the opportunity to purchase a carnation to honor a veteran. A card will be attached to the carnation with the veteran’s name and service information. Then PCGS volunteers will place the carnations on the steps of the PCGS Research Facility early on Nov. 11. Any veteran whether living or deceased may be honored. more
The Matilda Polk Campbell chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Open Hearts United Methodist Church, Bolivar, at 1 p.m. The program will be on Colonial Music presented by Jennifer Smith. more

Zach and Ashley Artz and family were among the families honored during the 67th annual Missouri Farm Family Day, Aug. 12 at the Missouri State Fair. The Artz family was selected as Polk County Missouri Farm Family by Polk County University of Missouri Extension council of the local Farm Bureau. The family includes Peyton, Hadley and Hayden. more
The Polk County Road and Bridge department will be starting construction on the south end of S 132 Road (Sandy Lane) next week. Barring the weather, we are estimating construction to take up to four weeks. During construction, the south end of the road from Aldrich Road to Mt. Gilead Road will be closed to through traffic. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but thank you for your cooperation during this construction period. more
Community Outreach Ministries (COM) hosted their third annual “Polk County’s Got Talent” fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 5, at The Heights Church. A spinoff of the popular television talent show, America’s Got Talent, the fundraising event highlighted the talent of eight local individuals and groups. more

For the second consecutive year, the tennis Lady Liberators have captured a conference championship. The 2023 conference title came in Bolivar’s final year with the Ozark Conference. This week, the Lady Liberators became the first ever Ozark Mountain Conference tennis champions in the inaugural season of the OMC. Bolivar hosted the six team tournament for nearly nine hours of competition on Oct. 8. With the low score of 16 points, the Lady Liberators secured first with a three point margin of victory over Branson with 19 followed by Carl Junction with 20, two teams that bested Bolivar in tight matches previously in the season. more
The Polk County Republican Central Committee will be having a "Meet the Candidates" event on Thursday, Oct. 17, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Elks Lodge in Bolivar. The Elks will be serving pulled pork sandwiches, sides, and drinks for $5 per person. Desserts will be provided. Polk County voters will have an opportunity to meet candidates, and ask questions about the Constitutional Amendments and how the law will be affected. Polk County candidates and office holders will be introduced. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. more

Anna Roberts, daughter of Lukas and Alicia Roberts of Bolivar, and Garrett Shockley, son of Gary and Becky Shockley of Polk, are to be married on Saturday, Oct. 12. The wedding will be at the Sentinel Missionary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Roberts went to Halfway High School and Shockley attended Bolivar High School. more
