The greens at Silo Ridge Country Club were packed with purpose on July 14 as 40 teams gathered for the annual Doug Potts BEAF Golf Classic for Kids — an event that blends friendly competition with community impact. Hosted by the Bolivar Educational Advancement Foundation (BEAF) in partnership with the Potts family, the tournament continues to grow in size and significance, raising funds for classroom grants, scholarships, and the Doug Potts Liberator Pride Scholarship, which supports students in the Bolivar R-1 School District.

The Polk County Health Center and Community Outreach Ministries kicked off the summer lunch program earlier this week. Volunteers provide service with a smile and kids can enjoy a great meal with friends and family, then have some fun at the splash pad to cool off on a hot day. The program runs through the month of July. Meals are also served in a Grab & Go fashion at Humansville, Pleasant Hope, Morrisville and Fair Play.

Estella Grace Carlin, the daughter of David and Bethany Carlin of Osceola, was the first baby born at CMH in 2025. Sarah Kallberg, D.O., with CMH OB/GYN Clinic delivered Estella at 11:12 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1. She weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long.

The low water bridge located on E 435th Road between D Hwy and S 150 is being replaced. Beginning Wednesday, Dec. 18 be prepared to detour as the road will be closed while this is being built. The expected time for this project is at least 90-days. The county appreciates your patience while we make these much needed repairs.

There will be a come and go reception to wish Mayor Christopher D. Warwick well as he leaves his post as Bolivar’s mayor and starts his new role as a state representative. It will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Bolivar City Hall, immediately before his final Board of Aldermen meeting.

After being closed for the past month, S 132nd Road (Sandy Lane) is now open for traffic. There is ongoing work to get it finished, but traffic is allowed through now. The county wants to thank everyone for their patience with this project.

Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28, found the streets of Bolivar full of activity in the form of parade watchers and kids of all ages marching in those parades. BHS and SBU both hosted their Homecoming weekend with parades, ballgames, ceremonies and getting together with old friends.
