Bill Roberts Chevrolet Buick will soon lose the latter part of their name. Buick, who has a line of four crossover-style vehicles, has chosen to make their entire line electric by the year 2030. The decision comes with a high price tag for dealers, meaning some will have to opt out of carrying the luxury GM line. One such dealer is Bolivar’s 3rd Generation GM Dealer, Bill Roberts. more

Being the victim of theft is never fun. Anyone who has seen their dashboard contents spewed all over their front seats can attest to that sinking feeling of violation. For those affected by a break-in, their sense of safety and security was taken, along with the items from their home. Emotions are high; anger, vulnerability, sadness, and frustration all swirl inside at the blatant disrespect of a stranger. more

The Kansas City Chiefs' win over the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl on Feb. 11 was a cause for celebration for thousands of fans throughout Missouri. Bolivar had its own share of loyalists who reveled in the heady high of victory. Two such die-hard fans were mother and son, Paula and John Hubbert who made the two-hour drive to Kansas City to see their team’s pep rally and parade. more

On Friday, Feb. 9, a two-car collision occurred half a mile north of Bolivar on Mo. 13. The accident happened as a 2006 GMC Sierra, driven by 75-year-old Patton Fraser of Bolivar, traveled straight, crossing Mo. 13 from a county road crossover. He failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was struck by a 2013 Ford Escape. In the Escape were 29-year-old Jordan Turner (driver), passenger Madison Fulton, 24, and a 1-year-old male, all from Belton. Everyone involved was taken to Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, with all but Fulton receiving minor injuries. Fulton had serious injuries. Both vehicles were severely damaged and towed from the scene: the GMC was taken by Wakefield Towing and the Ford was removed by B and B Towing. Trooper J.K. Marlin was the responding officer. more

According to their website, they have been in operation since 1904 and are the “nation’s largest donor-and volunteer-supported mentoring network.” The concept is simple, take adults and match them with kids, aged 5 through young adult, and grow a meaningful relationship that will impact that child’s life. The Board of Aldermen meeting on Jan. 23 had a special ceremony to honor Kristi Thomson for her honorable actions on Nov. 22, 2023. As the BH-FP reported Kristi (Roe) Thomson saw her neighbor’s house on fire at 1:55 a.m. The house on the 110 block of North Elgin Avenue, housed 15-year-old Anakin Rhodes who was home alone at the time. Thomson was able to awaken Rhodes, therefore saving his life. more
The Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) Senior Health Center is celebrating its 20th anniversary with an open house from 9-11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26. The Center is at 1840 W. Broadway St. in Bolivar. more
The Polk County Extension Center will be holding a Private Pesticide Applicator Training on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the Polk County Fairgrounds, 4560 S.100 Road, Bolivar. The class will start at 6 p.m. and conclude around 9 p.m. There is no cost for the training. Terry Halleran, Regional Agronomy Specialist, will facilitate the training. more
