On Saturday, Nov. 2, KLife hosted a gala event called “Sweet Impact”, complete with a jazz band, dinner, auctions, and a raffle. The event raised more than $80 thousand, $10 thousand more than their goal. The money raised goes toward the outreach and ministry of approximately 300 Polk County youth. All this fanfare was for a momentous occasion: celebrating two decades of the organization's outreach in Polk County. more

An oversight in the 2024 Bolivar High School hall-of-fame article from Sept. 18, 2024, brought James (Jim) Duncan’s service to the forefront. The induction piece claimed, “Derald’s name is inscribed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C….He is the only Polk County resident and Bolivar High School graduate listed as killed in action during the Vietnam War.” “Derald” is Derald Hood, a 21-year-old killed in South Vietnam on Dec. 19, 1970. more

Citizens Memorial Hospital has received certification from DNV as an Acute Stroke Ready Center, recognizing its ability to handle strokes and stroke-related medical problems. CMH is also a designated Level III Stroke Center by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. more

The first mention of ‘saving daylight’ came from Benjamin Franklin in 1784. However, the Germans made it a worldwide sensation in 1916 during WWI to save fuel for the war effort. Other countries temporarily followed suit, using ‘normal’ time after the war, then reverting to DST again during WWII. The United States continued the practice but, contrary to popular belief, farmers were the biggest detractors saying it created a bigger divide between rural and urban lifestyles. Some states went against the ‘rule’ and passed legislation banning it, which is why Hawaii, most of Arizona, and some counties in Indiana do not use it. DST starts the second Sunday in March and ends the first Sunday in November. more
